Our Values
This is personal! Every member of the Futre team has a life story that connects them to Futre, and makes our work deeply purposeful.
Welcome!
A Note from a Founder
Welcome! Futre was born from my own experiences – the successes and the heartbreaks – as a teacher, principal and system leader in schools. For years, I would celebrate our graduates knowing that many were on their way to bright futures, and with a pit in my stomach because far too many were headed out into the world without a good fit pathway. Like many, I embraced the College for All movement, and was truly honored to have the opportunity to build beautiful schools that prepared every student for acceptance to a four year university. The data told us this was the best way to serve young people, and yet my heart told me we were failing so many.
What else were we supposed to do? The idea of non-four year college pathways that lead to financially sustaining and fulfilling lives sounded great, but were rarely concrete. It was challenging enough for all of us to help every student navigate the complicated process of preparing for and applying to college. How in the world could we figure out how to navigate the world of careers? It felt overwhelming, and far too risky. But at some point, it became imperative that we do something different or hazard not serving our students.
Clearly, I am not alone. Everywhere I turn, communities are redefining the aims and outcomes for their graduates in inspiring and hopeful ways. And, everyone I talk with tells me they don’t have the tools to bring these visions to life.
We’ve built Futre in partnership with students, teachers, counselors, mentors, principals, superintendents and parents from across the country. Every single person we’ve worked with has offered insights and suggestions that make Futre what it is today. There is so much more Futre can become, but already we hear that it is unique, valuable and needed.
Welcome to a community of people who are dedicated to creating the tools to enable every single young person to design and navigate a pathway to the life they want to lead. Together, I know we have an opportunity to change the trajectory of young lives in incredibly positive ways.
With much respect,
Diane
